About Michael Wilder
Dr. Wilder completed his undergraduate studies in Music at Iowa State University and his M.Mus. and Ph.D. at the University of Michigan. He formerly served as the Chair of the Division of Fine Arts at Friends University and at Southwestern College as Chair of the Department of Music and of the Division of Fine Arts. In addition to his teaching and administrative work, Dr. Wilder is an accomplished clarinetist who was a member of the Wichita Symphony Orchestra for many years. He is currently a member of Camerata Chicago, an orchestra that recently completed a tour in Italy, France, and the Czech Republic.
Dr. Wilder's administrative gifts and leadership have offered opportunities for leadership roles in a number of contexts. He served on the faculty of the Credo Festival at Oberlin, as well as with the MasterWorks Festival in England and the U.S. and served as Chair of that organization’s board of directors. Wilder was recently elected the Associate Chair of the Commission on Accreditation for the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM; our Conservatory accreditor), and also serves on the Executive Committee of that organization, as well as a regular visiting evaluator and consultant.
