About Paul Egeland
After college graduation and as an intermediate grade teacher in St. Charles, Illinois, Dr. Egeland was active in the school’s outdoor education program. This fit well with his camping background and led to graduate studies in Outdoor Teacher Education. His interest in experiential education continued in South America where he served with TEAM as an educator at a school for missionary children in the Andes Mountains and while there inaugurated an outdoor education program.
For five years Dr. Egeland was absent from the classroom to help administer a large outdoor education and conference center in Wisconsin. He returned to the Fox Valley area of Illinois to pursue doctoral studies while continuing teaching in the elementary classroom. In responding to the invitation to join Wheaton’s Department of Education, his teaching, research, international travels, and camping/outdoor education experiences have provided the impetus to encourage prospective teachers. Presently he coordinates all undergraduate teacher licensure programs.
Dr. Egeland is married to Marie, a marriage and family therapist and travel professional. They have two lovely daughters, one wonderful son-in-law, and continue to reside and worship in the Fox River Valley, an enjoyable bike ride from the Wheaton campus.
