About Ward Davis

Dr. Davis is a licensed clinical psychologist who joined the Wheaton College faculty in 2012. He is a core faculty member in the Wheaton PsyD Program, and he mainly teaches graduate-level psychological assessment, practicum seminar, and clinical interviewing classes. Previously, Dr. Davis was an Assistant Professor in the Rosemead School of Psychology (Biola University), where he taught in the PsyD and PhD Programs and received the Sorenson Outstanding Faculty Award in 2012.

Dr. Davis’s professional interests include psychological assessment, interpersonal neurobiology, adult attachment, mindfulness, and the psychology of religion and spirituality—particularly how people conceptually view and experientially relate with God (e.g., God concepts and God images, respectively). In the Wheaton Psychology Department, Dr. Davis directs the Psychology and Spirituality Research Lab.

In addition to serving on the Wheaton College faculty, Dr. Davis works part-time as a psychologist at Alliance Clinical Associates (Wheaton, IL), where he provides assessment and psychotherapy services. He also is a member of the American Psychological Association (APA), the APA’s Society for the Psychology of Religion and Spirituality (APA Division 36), and the Christian Association for Psychological Studies (CAPS). Furthermore, he serves on the Editorial Board of the APA’s Spirituality in Clinical Practice journal (SCP).

On a more personal note, Dr. Davis enjoys spending time with his wife Meghan and with other family and friends. He also enjoys backpacking, camping, sailing, reading, singing, and playing the piano.

Research

Dr. Davis directs the Psychology and Spirituality Research Lab (PSRL), which is a research team in the Wheaton College Psychology Department. PSRL is comprised of Wheaton graduate and undergraduate psychology students. The mission of PSRL is to advance the scientific study of spirituality to promote health and well-being. PSRL research and resources focus on the intersections between psychology and spirituality, with an emphasis on Christian spirituality.

More narrowly, Dr. Davis’s research interests center on relational spirituality--that is, the ways people relate to the sacred. In particular, his research focuses on the scientific study of God representations, including how people conceptually view and experientially relate with God (e.g., God concepts and God images, respectively). His other research interests include adult attachment, interpersonal neurobiology, mindfulness, psychological assessment, and evidence-based practice in psychology.
