About Matthew Hills
Captain (CPT) Matthew Hills grew up as a missionary kid in the countries of Costa Rica, Colombia and Ecuador. He returned to the U.S. upon graduating from high school and attended Wheaton College. He is an Infantry Officer who has been serving on active duty since graduating from Wheaton College in May 2005.
CPT Hills’ first assignment was to Fort Bragg, North Carolina with the 1st Squadron, 73rd Cavalry, 2nd Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division where he served as an Airborne Scout Platoon Leader and Airborne Company Executive Officer. He first deployed to Iraq as a Platoon Leader during the “Surge” from November 2006 to February 2008. Upon returning from the 15-month deployment to Ft. Bragg in February 2008, he then served as a Company Executive Officer as part of the Army’s Global Response Force before attending the Maneuver Captain’s Career Course at Fort Benning, Georgia from July to December 2009.
In January 2010, CPT Hills was then assigned to the 2nd Stryker Brigade, 25th Infantry Division at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. He immediately assumed command of Company A, 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry and deployed to Iraq for the second time in June 2010. In March 2011, while still deployed, he relinquished command of Company A in Tikrit, Iraq and moved to Baghdad, Iraq having been selected to serve as the Aide-de-Camp to the 25th Infantry Division Commanding General. He then remained deployed an additional 10 months serving as the Aide-de-Camp and was on the final US military flight out of Iraq on December 17, 2011.
Upon returning to Schofield Barracks, Hawaii in December 2011, completing an 18-month deployment to Iraq, CPT Hills continued to serve as an Aide-de-Camp through April 2012 when he was selected to return to 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry and assume command of the Headquarters and Headquarters Company (HHC). During this second company command, he led his company in a 45-day training exercise to South Korea, August to September 2012. He relinquished this company command in March 2013 and joined the Wheaton College Army ROTC faculty in April 2013 to serve as an Assistant Professor of Military Science.
CPT Hills is a graduate of the Officer Basic Course, Scout Leaders Course, Sniper Emplacement Leaders Course, and the Maneuver Captains Career Course. He is also Ranger and Airborne qualified.
