Arts for Others (formerly known as the Music-a-thon) is an all-CSA event through which we use our musical and artistic gifts to serve other students all over the world.
The money raised in 2013 benefitted the students at Kinyago-Dandora School in Nairobi, Kenya. Dandora is one of the poorest areas of Nairobi. The homes there are literally built on the city dump. Much of the population makes a living by picking through trash. Many children there suffer from disease and starvation. There are not enough schools in Kenya, and government schools are overcrowded. Sometimes there are as many as 100 students per teacher!
KDS has 604 children enrolled in grades preschool-8. It is one of the top academic schools in the district, and its students often win local music and sports competitions. The school also provides healthcare and spiritual health programs to the community.
CSA teacher, Kathy Cathey, travels to the school every few years to teach music.
As part of this event, CSA Suzuki Strings students participate in a Play-a-thon and bake sale in Pierce Chapel.
Visual Art Exhibits
CSA visual art students have the opportunity to exhibit their work. Past shows have hung at the Wheaton Public Library, Caribou Coffee, Wheaton College Adams Hall Gallery and at major CSA events.
Community Service Day
200 Suzuki string students perform annually at ten area retirement centers. These concerts lift the spirits of residents through music and provide an opportunity for CSA students to give back to the community.
