Enjoy the century-old art of working with clay. Students learn various ceramics techniques, while creating objects with clay. Projects cover both handbuilding techniques, using the wheel and multiple glazing methods.

Artistic Impressions (gr 2–3)

Students explore many mediums such as charcoal, paint, ceramics and sculpture. They learn about great artists and discover how to incorporate basic principles of line, color and composition. This class builds a solid foundation for further study in visual art.

*Prerequisite: 2 semesters of prior level. 

Students develop essential skills through fun yet challenging assignments. These introduce basic concepts such as perspective, value, color studies and body proportions, and expose students to a variety of materials including ceramics, paint, pastels and charcoal. Studio time is divided between required assignments and open studio. 

Drawing (gr 9–12)

Students expand their understanding of value, shape, line and composition through projects designed to develop their drawing ability, a skill which provides the basis for most visual art forms. Class meets every other week.

Acrylic Painting (gr 9–12)

Through the use of color theory, value studies and instruction in composition, students learn techniques to better express themselves through acrylic paints. Class meets every other week.

Open Studio (gr 9–12)

Following completion of several required assignments, students begin choosing projects from multiple mediums and receiving individualized attention from the instructor in an open studio atmosphere. Class meets every other week.
