Fall 2014

Italic Calligraphy artist Lauren Davies
SEPT 27
Italic Calligraphy is legible and fun to flourish. The letterforms will be drawn in ink with a chisel edged pen, creating a keepsake work of art using watercolor and the Italic hand. Bring a short phrase or quote to the workshop.

Cartooning artist Jim Martin
OCT 25
Explore the wit, humor and art of creating cartoons using only pen and paper!  Students will learn to convey emotions and facial expressions to make their cartoon character come alive.

Spring 2015

Lithuanian Egg Dying artist Vytas Miknaitis
MAR 28 (NOTE TIME: 9am-12pm)
Margucial is the traditional way to decorate Easter eggs in Lithuania.  Using a candle, pin, wax and dyes, students will learn to make beautifully intricate designs on eggs.  Each student must bring six hard boiled white eggs.

Ceramics artist Jenny Nagle
APR 25
Make a friend!  Transform ideas into creative expression.  Using a slump mold ceramic technique, students will create a face for outdoor hanging.  Work will be ready for pickup after May 9.

Legent calligraphy style of all lowercase letterforms has a spirited personality!  Participants make a colorful handmade book and letter a favorite quotation on its pages.  Bring a short phrase or quote to the workshop.

Soft Pastels artist Carol Zack

Students will create a pastel painting using a traditional pastel painting process of building thin layers of color.  Expand your knowledge of the four cornerstones of creating pastel paintings integrating shape, value, edges and color.

Needle Felting artist Lesley Edmondson

Wild and wooly!  Neelde felting is a fun and creative way to release your inner artist.  No experience needed to learn the techniques of melding wool roving with a needle.  Let your imagination guide you to fashion a special keepsake of holiday ornament.

Peruvian Gourdaments artist Jenny Nagle
DEC 13
Creating art from gourds is one of the oldest art forms in Peru, handed down from the early Inca Indians.  Create your own Peruvian Gourdament featuring traditional animals or geometric patterns using paints and woodburning tools.

This class for watercolor lovers and beginners will concentrate on the basics starting with sketching skills, perspective, composition, valurs and techniques.  Still life materials or landscape photo inspirations will be available.

Painting with Ink artist Rebecca Banasiak

Do you want to learn how to express with inks?  Learn how to create an ink painting by utilizing two basic techniques - layering and painting with washes, just like painting with waterscolors.

Explore handbuilding techniques an ideas for creating works with soft slabs of clay.  Using learned techniques, students will make a functional outdoor wall planter. Work will be ready for pickup after April 25.

Broaden your drawing skills with colored pencils.  Learn to create multi-layers of color using wax based pencils, how to balance layers between shadows and highlights, and discover the detail achieved with colored pencils.

Draw the human form, stretching and distorting a subject’s facial features for humorous lampooning.  Students learn the fundamentals of the powerful art of caricature.

Create textile art! Learn to use dyes on silk fabric with wax resist methods to create artistic patterns. Various tools and application techniques help students create original hand painted pieces to frame or use in pillow fronts or quilt blocks.

Felted Wool Scarf artist Tammy Deck

Create a neck scarf, table runner or wall hanging through this fun and unusual process of wet felting. Bypassing all knitting and crochet, students work with hand-dyed, super soft, Targhee wool fiber. Learn how to lay out yarn and wool bits for the "tapestry" surface, layer the fiber (roving), wet it and work it into your finished piece.
