A Global Summer

“The weather is hot, the bugs are everywhere, but we are having a good time, and God is opening our eyes to the realities of our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ.”

So said Emily Cole ’13, who along with Anna Larson ’12 and Johanna De Haven ’13 spent the summer in the Dominican Republic, teaching elementary school children and helping out at orphanages through Student Ministry Partners (SMP).

Emily, Anna, and Johanna are among the 253 Wheaton students who traveled internationally this summer to take part in Wheaton’s Global and Experiential Learning programs.

For some students, “global and experiential learning” meant spending time in China, examining the implications of China’s growing economic and military strength. For others, it meant visiting child-headed homes in Zambia. The pictures and the accompanying notes sent in by students and faculty members, shown below, tell a few of the stories.
