Rev. Colleen Koppert Holby, pastoral care director at The Children’s Village in New York, will be presented as Alumna of the Year for Distinguished Service to Society 2011 by the Wheaton College Alumni Association during Alumni Weekend, May 6-7.
Rev. Holby, who graduated from Wheaton in 1955, provides spiritual care, counsel, and advocacy for the more than 300 residents of The Children’s Village, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing safety and care for at-risk children. The organization emphasizes the importance of education, work, lifelong relationships, and social responsibility.
By forming relationships, establishing outreach opportunities and offering guidance, Rev. Holby strives to develop hope and faith in the children and teens she serves.
Rev. Holby worked on staff with Young Life for 15 years before joining The Children’s Village in 1978, and she still raises funds to send 30 teens to Young Life camps annually. She has also served as president of the executive board of the National Chaplains Association for Youth at Risk.
The Wheaton College Alumni Association is pleased to honor Rev. Holby for her lifelong commitment to love and serve vulnerable children.
