Dr. Jovanka T. Koo recently joined the Wheaton College faculty as Associate Professor of Biology.
Koo is a graduate of Swarthmore College, where she earned a B.A. in biology. She completed a Ph.D. in microbiology from the University of Washington and was a postdoctoral fellow at Weill Medical College of Cornell University and the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University.
Previously, Koo served as an adjunct professor at Essex County College. Her research interests include studying molecular mechanisms bacteria use to regulate the expression of their genes.
“The greatest appeal and challenge of working at Wheaton will be the integration of my Christian faith with my teaching and research. God has drawn me to Himself through research: the uncovering of the intricate ways in which He has designed the biological world to operate,” Koo says. “My hope and prayer is that both my students and I would see God at work and worship Him as we do science together.”
“Dr. Koo comes to Wheaton with outstanding training,” says Wheaton College provost Dr. Stanton Jones. “She brings a richness of faith and professional expertise to her appointment.”
