Chiseled in stone above the doors to the main building of a premier university are these words: “Ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.” What might this statement mean to the thousands of daily passersby? Is it a call toward worthwhile academic pursuits, an inspirational goal, or just a sentiment to live by? Or would passersby know that these were Jesus’ words, as he spoke promises to those who believed in him and continued in his word (John 8:32)? More>
Winter 2013 Issue
On the night of April 29, 1977, Margie Bowers ’75 was brutally stabbed to death in her Oak Park apartment by a man whom she scarcely knew, but feared. The murderer should have been in jail. Previously arrested for another killing, he pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. He was sent to a residential facility and later released after having been deemed mentally sound. The deplorable failure of the criminal justice system to protect Margie resulted in a public outcry. More>

For every issue of Wheaton magazine, the challenge comes down to this: Arrange almost a quarter of a million characters into about 35,000 words; and then place these words into sentences that become paragraphs that become articles that hopefully interest, inspire, inform, and motivate readers. Dr. H. Wilbert Norton ’36, now 97 years old, is just as good-humored, wise, and valiant as when I knew him in the mid-1960s when I worked in the office of Graduate School Dean Dr. Merrill C. Tenney. On February 20, 2012, I was with Dr. Norton as he did a video interview here on campus—this missions statesman, relating memories as a Wheaton student, graduate school professor and dean, and worldwide ambassador in Kingdom work.
