Q: What is Zipcar?

Zipcar is the world’s largest car-sharing service that provides the opportunity to reserve a car for an hour or all day. It is a convenient, economical, and environmentally friendly alternative to the hassles of keeping a car on campus.

Q: Who is eligible to use Zipcar?

Student, faculty and staff ages 18 and older, as well as members of the local community ages 21 and over.

Q: What are the benefits of Zipcar?

This service provides the convenience of a car without having to think about all of the extra costs and worries that come with car ownership. The cost of the membership and reservation includes gas, maintenance, insurance, road side assistance and 180 miles of driving per day. Also the cars have their own designated parking spots in the South Jenks Lot so there is no difficulty finding an open spot.

The cars are located on the South Jenks Lot (College Avenue and Howard Street).

Q: When are the cars available to be reserved?

The cars live on campus and are available 24 hours a day & 7 days a week. Members can make a reservation online at zipcar.com/wheaton, via Facebook or mobile app, or over the phone. The cars can be reserved for as little as one hour or as long as four days.

Q: How do I join and how much does it cost to use this service?

Wheaton members can join for $25 per year and will receive $40 in free driving the first month (free driving credit expires October 31) by visiting zipcar.com/wheaton.

Q: What happens if I drive over the 180 mile limit in a day?

It costs 45 cents for every extra mile; however, you have 180 miles of driving at your disposal for every day you have reserved. For instance, if you reserve two days you have 360 miles that you can split up over both days, and you would be able to drive all of the 360 miles on the first day and zero miles on the second day if you desired.

Q: I’m an international student. Can I join Zipcar?

Yes! International student are welcome to join and we accept all drivers’ licenses. For more information on eligibility requirements and the documents that you’ll need to apply, visit zipcar.com/apply/foreign-drivers.
