BreakAway 2016 Trips

Each trip requires a non-refundable deposit. The deposit will be applied to your total trip cost. Deposits can be paid with either cash or check. Checks should be made out to Wheaton College/BreakAway with the name of your trip in the memo line. Sign-ups begin on Wednesday, November 11, 2015. After the initial sign-up day, you can sign up in the Office of Christian Outreach, in Lower Beamer until a trip is full - first come, first served.

 

Chicago, Illinois 2016

Chicago is a world class city with its ethnic diversity, museums, art district, and sports teams to name a few. Spend a week learning about Chicago government, business district, Chicago public schools and community development.  See the city through the eyes of its residents and community leaders.  In partnership with CUE – The Center for Urban Engagement.

  • COST OF TRIP: $375, including a $50 non-refundable deposit due at sign-up.
  • Once you sign-up, you are responsible for the full cost of the trip.
  • Deposit can be paid by cash or check.

Denver, Colorado 2016

Immerse yourself in the work of Mile High Ministries which serves in the urban center of Denver. Participate in various ways of serving your neighbors who are experiencing the effects of homelessness.

  • COST OF TRIP: $475, including a $50 non-refundable deposit due at sign-up.
  • Once you sign-up, you are responsible for the full cost of the trip.
  • Deposit can be paid by cash or check.

Deering, New Hampshire 2016

Prepare to witness the restorative and transforming power of God’s love at His Mansion Ministries, a Christ-centered intensive community focused on recovery and restoration for those struggling with addictions, past trauma, mental health issues, and eating disorders.  Students will experience the community at His Mansion first hand through living, eating, working, and building relationships with staff and residents.

  • COST OF TRIP: $450, including a $50 non-refundable deposit due at sign-up.

San Francisco, California 2016

Learn and serve in San Francisco through BreakAway Ministry’s many strong partnerships in the Bay Area.  Join with numerous different organizations doing a variety of work in and around the city, including Inner CHANGE, Youth with a Mission, the San Francisco Food Bank, and Laguna Honda Hospital.  Experience local churches and culture while taking in the sights of this classic American city.

  • COST OF TRIP: $675, including a $100 non-refundable deposit due at sign-up.
  • Once you sign-up, you are responsible for the full cost of the trip.
  • Deposit can be paid by cash or check.
  • There are 10 spaces available (5 female, 5 male)

Savannah, Georgia 2016

Team members will partner with Habitat for Humanity in a low-income neighborhood in Savannah helping in construction and home renovation projects.  Participants will also have the opportunity to tutor at a local elementary school and serve in a food bank.

St. Louis, Missouri 2016

Partner with Citylights and learn about how God is mobilizing the church to meet the practical needs of one’s neighbors.  Participate in Citylights’ numerous avenues of service to widows, refugees and immigrants who live in St. Louis, including teaching English as a Second Language, providing housing support, and tending to a community garden.

  • COST OF TRIP: $450, including a $50 non-refundable deposit due at sign-up.
  • Once you sign-up, you are responsible for the full cost of the trip.

Appalachia, Tennessee 2016

Partner with the interdenominational ministry Mountain T.O.P. (Tennessee Outreach Project) to experience Grundy County in the Appalachian Mountains of Tennessee.  Work both on Mountain T.O.P.’s in-camp facilities, as well on the homes of people in the local community by doing tasks such as yard work, painting, or light construction.  Enjoy visiting area churches and meeting county residents, while taking in the beauty of Appalachia.

  • COST OF TRIP: $475, including a $50 non-refundable deposit due at sign-up.
  • Once you sign-up, you are responsible for the full cost of the trip.
  • Deposit can be paid by cash or check.
  • There are 12 spaces available (6 female, 6 male)

Toronto, Canada 2016

Serve in two unique environments while showing love to mentally disabled adults through music, dance, art, and acting classes with St. Jude's Academy of Arts. In addition, serve meals to the homeless and provide an opportunity for community, advocacy, and friendship at St. Francis Table.

These trips are offered through BreakAway Ministry, a ministry of the Office of Christian Outreach, which is located at the North entrance to the Todd M. Beamer Student Center.
