Prior to accepting a position at Wheaton College, Steve was an in-house attorney and a director-level corporate development executive for several Fortune 500 companies. His activities focused on mergers and acquisitions, domestic and cross-border commercial transactions, venture capital equity investments, corporate law and antitrust law. Specific projects and responsibilities included:
- Serving on the Board of Directors of Quantum Epitaxial Designs, Inc., a high tech wafer manufacturer for the telecommunications industry.
- Divesting a powder coatings business unit with operations in Europe, the Americas and the Asia/Pacific region for approximately $132,000,000.
- Acquiring an electronic materials business unit with operations in the United States and the United Kingdom for approximately $21,000,000.
- Establishing wholly-owned subsidiaries in India, China and Indonesia and entering into or dissolving joint ventures in China, South Korea and Turkey.
Steve is married and has two high school aged daughters. His wife is a former middle school math and science teacher who is now a full-time homemaker and a study group leader for Bible Study Fellowship. Steve is a ruling elder in his church and is currently singing in the choir. Steve enjoys reading, American history, running, cross-country skiing, hiking, camping, and bicycling

Steve is currently pursuing research in topics such as the theology of competition in the context of business strategy, and the legal issues faced by publicly traded companies committed to the Christian concept of business as mission.
