Wheaton College SAO
Church Directory

Message from Chaplain Steve Kellough:

This directory has been adapted from a booklet compiled by the Orientation Committee to provide new students with information about churches in our area. The churches listed in this directory are organized first by denomination and then alphabetically. Please be advised that this is not a comprehensive listing of every church in Wheaton, nor is this to be considered a Wheaton College list of "approved churches." The denominations listed in this directory are simply those that have asked to be listed.

Wheaton College is a community of Christians who work, play, study, and worship together. Three times a week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday) we gather in one place (Edman Chapel) to worship. Throughout each week and during the course of the year there are other College sponsored opportunities for worship, prayer, and Christian fellowship on our campus.

But Wheaton College is not a church. We intentionally refrain from scheduling on-campus Sunday morning worship services. For your information-there are churches that rent College facilities on a temporary basis. From time to time you may find places like Edman Chapel, Pierce Chapel, or Barrows Auditorium being used by a local church for Sunday morning worship. While students are free to attend these services, it should be understood that these are rental arrangements and not college sponsored events.

It should also be noted that "College Church in Wheaton" (at the corner of College Avenue and Washington) is not owned or operated by Wheaton College. It is an excellent church with strong historic ties to Wheaton College, but it is an independent local church.

There are many local churches in the area that you may want to consider for worship, fellowship, and service opportunities. This booklet lists area churches that have invited Wheaton College students to visit them. Please note that this does not list every church in Wheaton, nor is this to be considered a list of "approved churches." The churches in this directory are simply those that have asked to be listed.

As the Chaplain of the College, I encourage you to attend and become involved in the life of a local Church during the time you are here. Participation in "church life" now will equip you for "life after Wheaton College."

Also, I want to make myself available to you as your campus pastor. Feel free to call on me at any time, or just stop by the Chaplain's Office in the Beamer Center and introduce yourself.
