Ecclesiastes 3:1 (NIV)
Welcome to A Time for Everything: Encouragement from Wheaton Thought Leaders, four inspiring talks for the Wheaton College worldwide family. These talks draw from the Scriptural truth that there is a time for everything, and they will invite you to consider what sort of time you may be in now. As you listen, our speakers will take you on a journey where you will learn from Christ-followers of the past, remember God’s promises for the future, and reflect on how to live faithfully today.
Dr. Kirk Farney M.A. ’98 – “There Has to Be a Hymn in Here Somewhere!”
Rev. Dr. Emily McGowin – “A Time to Give Up”
Rev. Dr. Esau McCaulley – “A Time for Hope”
Rev. Dr. Amy Peeler – “A Time to Give Birth, and a Time to Die”
Vice President for Advancement, Vocation, and Alumni Engagement Dr. Kirk Farney explores the life and work of Charles Wesley, an English leader of the Methodist movement, who spent his life tirelessly writing hymns for every situation and circumstance.
“Wesley ... seemed to have assumed constantly, ‘there has to be a hymn in here somewhere.’ This wasn’t just an assumption. It was an attitude grounded in hope. It was an inspiration flowing from grace.” – Dr. Kirk Farney
Assistant Professor of Theology Emily McGowin encourages us to have confidence in the lordship of Christ by accepting and embracing our own limitations.
"Deep at the heart of our common faith lies one indispensable truth: Jesus Christ is Lord, which means that we are not." – Rev. Dr. Emily McGowin
Assistant Professor of New Testament Esau McCaulley reminds us to root our hope in the gospel rather than what we can see, and to become the kind of people who give hope to others by embodying the love of Christ.
"If Christ defeated death, then the world is a different place, even when I don't experience it as such." – Rev. Dr. Esau McCaulley
Associate Professor of New Testament Amy Peeler explores Ecclesiastes in light of the Incarnation and speaks to the hope we have in knowing that Christ himself entered into life and death.
“There was a time to be born, and there will be for all of us a time to die. But praise God, before all of us, Jesus Christ has done it all." – Rev. Dr. Amy Peeler
