The David McCasland Research Grant was established in partnership with the Oswald Chambers Publications Association Limited (OCPAL) to support research efforts of those traveling to use the Oswald Chambers Papers held in the Wheaton Archives & Special Collections. The grant was established in honor of retiring OCPAL board member David McCasland.
David McCasland
David McCasland did much to further the legacy of Oswald Chambers, publishing the definitive biography of Chambers in 1998 titled Oswald Chambers: Abandoned to God, winner of the Evangelical Christian Publishers’ Association Gold Medallion for biography. McCasland then donated a significant amount of material to the Wheaton Archives & Special Collections that became the foundation of the Chambers collection. Materials included original letters, research files, and secondary publications. This donation made these invaluable materials accessible to Chambers’ admirers and researchers for future generations. It is with deep gratitude for David McCasland’s service to Oswald Chambers’ legacy that this grant has been established.
Grant Details
The David McCasland Research Grant exists to support researchers who must travel to use the Oswald Chambers Papers in Special Collections. Awards of up to $500.00 will be granted to applicants who meet the grant criteria. Grant applications may be submitted at any time and will be received throughout the year by the Grant Committee of Wheaton Archives & Special Collections.
Criteria for awarding grants include the following:
- Applicant must submit the completed application form, a current résumé or C.V., and a list of estimated expenses to be reimbursed.
- Applicants must be submitted six weeks in advance of the applicant’s anticipated research visit dates.
- Applicant’s research project must include the study of Oswald Chambers’ life or works.
- Applicant’s research project is intended to produce a publication, e.g. a thesis or dissertation, article, book, or documentary.
- Applicant must reside outside a 100-mile radius of Wheaton College (IL).
Research grants will be made in the form of reimbursement for expenses. Recipients will be required to submit receipts for expenses to receive funds. Grant recipients will then receive a check or deposit in U.S. dollars within 30 days after these materials are received by Archives & Special Collections.
