Benefits Overview
Wheaton College is pleased to offer a comprehensive benefits program. The following information is not all inclusive, and we encourage all eligible employees to familiarize themselves with their available benefits. Current employees can access more detailed information about their benefits through the Portal, employee handbook, or by contacting the Human Resources Department directly.
Healthcare
Wheaton College offers eligible employees a variety of healthcare benefits and more details are available in the Portal.
Effective the first day of employment, all eligible employees are offered medical coverage through BlueCross BlueShield of Illinois. Additional programs offered in our medical coverage include Wellness discounts and rewards, Women’s and Family health programs, digital mental health resources, and prescription discounts.
Effective the first day of employment, all eligible employees are offered dental insurance through Delta Dental. Delta Dental offers additional services at no extra cost for employees and dependents with special needs.
Effective the first day of employment, all eligible employees are offered vision insurance through Delta Vision.
Effective the first day of employment, eligible employees can enroll in Health Care and Dependent Care spending accounts. This allows you to use pre-tax dollars on health care and dependent care expenses.
Paid Time Off
Finding a healthy work-life balance is important to your continued success as an employee here. At Wheaton College, an employee may be eligible for any of the following types of paid time off.
Wheaton College provides the following fifteen paid holidays:
- New Year's Day
- Martin Luther King Day
- Good Friday
- Memorial Day
- Independence Day (2 Days)
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving Break (2 Days)
- Christmas Eve through New Year's Day (6 days)
Vacation accrual for staff employees is based upon years of service and position.
Illinois Paid Leave accrual for all employees is based on hours worked, up to an annual cap of 40 hours. This type of leave can be taken for any reason and unused time will be carried over to the next year. (Note: Wisconsin based employees are eligible for sick time rather than Illinois Paid Leave)
Paid Parental Leave grants eligible employees paid leave in the period surrounding the birth or adoption and early care of a child. Please see the applicable staff or faculty handbook for more information.

Income Replacement
Through our retirement planning options, life insurance offerings, as well as disability insurance coverage, our employees can feel supported in whatever stage of life they may find themselves in.
All employees (with the exception of student employees) are eligible to participate in the plan upon date of hire. After one year of employment, and attainment of 21 years of age, employees who have worked a minimum of 1,000 hours in a 12-month measurement period will qualify to receive Wheaton College’s matching contribution. This waiting period requirement may be waived under certain circumstances.
We partner with Savi, a social impact technology organization, designed to help you navigate the complex process of applying for loan forgiveness and/or lowering your payment. The Savi Essential service acts as your advocate and will alert you to any potential issues or opportunities you may not have considered, handle the paperwork, e-filing, and annual recertification.
Wheaton College provides coverage of 1.5 times employee's annual salary. Supplemental employee and dependent coverage are also available.
Wheaton College provides short-term and long-term disability coverage at 60% of salary after one year of full-time employment, at no cost to eligible employees.
Life and Work Enhancement
In addition to the other benefits listed, Wheaton College provides some unique offerings that help improve the overall quality of life for our employees. Whether you are looking to further your own education, recommit to that New Year’s Resolution of working out, or adopt a new child into your family, Wheaton College’s benefits can assist you.
Tuition remission is offered to employees and their spouses at Wheaton College. Employees’ dependents may be eligible for tuition remission at Wheaton College or another CCCU school if certain qualifications are met.
Wheaton College provides financial assistance for eligible adoption expenses.
Employees and their dependents have access to free resources to help with life’s challenges. These resources include in-person, phone, or virtual access to counseling, legal assistance, family care referrals, and financial guidance and planning.
Employees may use the RTA Transit Benefit Fare Program that allows you to use pre-tax deductions from your paycheck to pay for the purchase of transit fares. This program provides the convenience of having your transit fare automatically deposited into your account.
Employees and their eligible dependents receive discounts to campus activities and services, as well as free access to on-campus fitness facilities and most athletic events. Discounts extend to HoneyRock Camp summer camp and cabin rentals, campus store, and on-campus dining facilities. Campus room rental and guest housing are also available for personal use (for a fee) when classes are not in session. Employees can install Microsoft Office on a subscription basis to personally-owned computers and mobile devices at no additional cost.
All employees have access to free NY Times and Chronicle of Higher Ed subscriptions. The College provides a free membership to LinkedIn Learning where you can expand your knowledge and remain current with the skills needed for your job. Additional professional growth and spiritual formation opportunities are offered throughout the year on and off campus.
The College hosts a Christmas luncheon and a variety of social and community building events throughout the year, including an annual Service Award ceremony where awards are given in five-year increments.
