The Jonathan B. Cook Oratorical Contest is held in the spring.

The Jonathan B. Cook Oratorical Contest was founded in 1928, and has been performed nearly every year since. The purpose of the contest is stated: “to develop the student’s appreciation of oratory, the ideals of the college, and the power of leadership.” The rules of the contest remained largely consistent since its commencement 85 years ago. Competitors in the contest present an original, 10 minute long persuasive speech. Speeches are judged by a 3 judge panel, with winners announced the same day.
