The M.A. in Humanitarian and Disaster Leadership (HDL) program at Wheaton College has been a cornerstone of my growth, both personally and professionally. This program has not only deepened my understanding of humanitarian work but has equipped me with practical, real-world skills I draw on daily in my career. Key skills I've gained include crisis management, leadership in challenging environments, and the ability to assess and respond to community needs effectively. Each course, from leadership development to field-based case studies, has enhanced my capacity to approach challenges with a strategic yet compassionate mindset, empowering me to lead with resilience and empathy—qualities that are critical in humanitarian work.
The connections I made with fellow students and faculty have been invaluable. The program fostered a supportive environment that encouraged open dialogue, allowing me to learn from peers who came from diverse backgrounds and shared similar passions for humanitarian work. These connections have been crucial to my faith journey as well, deepening my understanding of service and leadership in a Christian context. Engaging with faculty who are both academics and experienced practitioners provided mentorship that has guided my career path and continues to influence my approach to humanitarian challenges.
The M.A. in HDL has significantly shaped my career trajectory. This program laid a strong foundation for stepping into leadership roles and has given me the confidence to address complex issues in communities worldwide. The HDL program has also expanded my network within the humanitarian sector, connecting me to a community that continually supports and challenges me to grow. With these experiences and relationships, I feel equipped and motivated to advance in the field, always aiming to bring meaningful, lasting impact to those we serve.
