Interviews with multi-generation HoneyRock Families
Matt Schmitz: A 3rd Generation HoneyRock Family
When did your involvement with HoneyRock start?
“HR has always been a part of our lives since my mom originally attended HR as a camper and cabin leader in the 70’s. I began attending HoneyRock, going through Residential Camp to key HoneyRock high school and college summer leadership programs, including being a cabin leader in 2009. This past summer, my oldest son attended his first year of day camp, making us a 3rd generation HR family.”
How has HoneyRock impacted your family and your faith?
“HoneyRock had the largest impact on my spiritual formation during the critical years of middle school, high school, and college. During those summers, I encountered God in ways that brought me into a personal relationship with him. HR’s core components of being in community, in creation, and practicing sacred rhythms stay with me to this day.”
How have you given back or supported HoneyRock through the years?
“One of the ways we have acknowledged the lasting impact of HR on our family is by being monthly givers since 2010 and more recently with specific gifts towards camp needs. As Vera and I pray to be good stewards of our finances, we know we can give with confidence that HoneyRock is also a good steward of theirs. It brings us great joy to support the mission of Honeyrock for future generations.”
