The Wheaton College Pep Band is an extracurricular (non-credit bearing) music ensemble that functions to serve the needs of both the Conservatory of Music and the Athletics Department. The group's mission is to cultivate a spirited atmosphere at athletic events and engage students in support of Wheaton athletic teams while maintaining Christlike sportsmanship.
The Pep Band is open to all Wheaton students, regardless of major. Its purpose is to energize the atmosphere at athletic events, foster school spirit, and provide musicians with an avenue to explore pep band music, techniques, and culture.
A requirement of Pep Band participation is that students commit to the entire basketball season but only perform on select dates. This is a paid gig, and members of the pep band are compensated per performance. Students interested in auditioning for the Pep Band should confirm availability for all rehearsal and performance dates listed below prior to auditioning.
For the 2024-2025 academic year, the pep band will perform at the following games:
- Friday, November 15 (5:00 p.m. or 7:00 p.m.)
- Friday, November 22* (5:00 p.m. or 7:00 p.m.)
- Saturday, December 14: doubleheader (5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.)
- Wednesday, January 22: men (7:00 p.m.)
- Saturday, February 8: doubleheader (5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.)
- Wednesday, February 19: women (7:00 p.m.)
*This game conflicts with the CSO @ Wheaton event.
The pep band will have mandatory rehearsals from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on the following dates:
- Saturday, October 26
- Saturday, November 2
- Saturday, January 18
Audition Requirements:
Wind auditions consist of a full-range chromatic scale, a pep band chart excerpt, and a short sight-reading excerpt. The links for each instrument audition excerpt are provided below. Auditions will take place from 1-5 p.m. on Saturday, August 31st in Edman 102. You may sign up for an audition time during the first week of class. Walk-ins are also welcome!
